Century Yuasa ecoBiz Champion recognition

Century Yuasa is proud to announce that it has been recognised as an ecoBiz Champion Star Partner by the Chamber of Commerce & Industry Queensland (CCIQ).

Delivered by the CCIQ and supported by the University of Southern Queensland, the ecoBiz Champion Star Partner title recognises companies participating in the ecoBiz program that have achieved a minimum of 10% reduction in either energy, water, waste or greenhouse gas per unit without increasing consumption by more than 5% in the others.

The ecoBiz program is designed to give Queensland businesses a competitive advantage by making real environmental and financial savings. Through this program, businesses are able to minimise waste, reduce water and power usage, save money and become more environmentally sustainable.

CYB joined the ecoBiz program back in 2005 and achieved its first ecoBiz Partnership in 2011. A re-assessment of Century Yuasa’s automotive manufacturing data over the July 2015 – June 2016 period has resulted in the company to be recertified as an ecoBiz Champion Star Partner in August 2016, thanks to an impressive 23% reduction in energy usage and an 83% decrease in the amount of potable water used over the studied period.

Century Yuasa’s continued efforts towards sustainability include the instigation of a Water Efficiency Management Plan (WEMP), through which the company has been capturing and re-using waste water from battery and equipment wash-down procedures for sulphuric acid dilution and other activities, the recycling and re-use of various waste streams (including plastic wrap, cardboard, polystyrene and wooden pallets), and the recycling of batteries through the Century Yuasa Battery Recycling program.
